7 types of Australian student visas


Any student who is not an Australian citizen needs the Australian student visa for pursuing any course that lasts longer than four months. There are 7 different types of Australian student visas and to apply for any of them you must have received an unconditional offer letter from an Australian university. You must also have accepted the offer and paid the course tuition fee. 

Here is a list of the 7 types of Australian visas:

1.The Independent ELICOS Sector visa
It is for the international students aspiring to study the ELICOS (English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students) programme full time. The students who wish to undertake ELICOS as a prerequisite to another programme must apply under the sub class relevant to the main programme. 

2.Vocational Education and Training Sector visa
This one is for the international students looking forward to studying a full time vocational programme. It also includes Diplomas and Advance Diplomas, and Certificate I, II, III, IV. 

3.The School Sector visa
The School Sector visa is for the international students who wish to complete a full time school programme. This is for primary, secondary, or a secondary exchange programme. 

4.The Postgraduate Research Sector visa
This is for international students looking to conduct research at the postgraduate level or a doctoral degree. 

5.The Higher Education Sector visa
This is for the international students seeking to take up a full time higher education programme such as graduate certificate, graduate diploma or a bachelor degree.

6.The Non Award Sector visa
This is for international students who aspire to study either a non-award foundation studies programme or a full time course which does not lead to an award in Australia.

7.Foreign Affairs or Defence Sector Visa
This visa is for those international students who are sponsored by the AusAID or Defence for a full time course of any type in the country. 
In general, a student visa can last up to five years and costs about 560 Australian dollars.
