DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND VOCATIONAL SCHOOL

To study in USA, it is not necessary for you to do a 2 to 4 year degree course or any degree at all.
There are two different paths to higher education in USA which you must understand. These are Community colleges, and Vocational schools.

While community colleges were the U.S.’s first vocational schools, they have expanded their operations to include 2 year degrees across a wide variety of fields.
Vocational schools, on the other hand, focus on providing on-the-job training and apprenticeships for industries.

Replacing community college with vocational schools would mean eliminating programs that give liberal art backgrounds to millions of Americans, or the chance of earning a diploma.
Let’s take a closer look at the major differences between the two.

Community College
Traditionally, community colleges offer 2 year degree programs on a wide variety of topics. Graduates earn associate degrees, many of which imbibe a higher earning potential among students and the possibility of transferring to a 4 year degree from an institution of higher education.
The classes are often small and flexible, with mixed learning options between in-person and online courses. These are also less expensive and play a critical role in the US higher education system, enrolling almost half of all US undergraduates.
In addition to this, the students may be eligible for federal student loans.

Vocational Schools
While community colleges and vocational schools share same goals of educating the community members, a vocational school focuses specifically on job training.
Also known as trade schools, vocational schools allow the students to develop skills related to specific careers, like welding or becoming an electrician, plumber, carpenter etc.
After successfully graduating from a vocational program, students can enter their field of work immediately.

These programs take a lot less time as compared to a 4 year degree.
Most of the training provided is hands on and leads to successful careers like mechanic, electrician, nuclear technician, or dental hygienist etc.
After all the differences between the two, there is one thing in common. Both community colleges and Vocational schools offer students realistic options for expanding their academic horizons gaining skills for performing the job properly.
